Fr. Melvin writes email to Rita telling her about things going on in his life and including his conversations or locutions with Jesus
April 12, 2001
Dear Rita,
Good morning to you and all who read these words. We have another sunny day but rain is on the way for tomorrow and Saturday. Today we enter into the Easter Triduum, the three most holy days of the year. It was during these days that Jesus changed the world forever.
In prayer this morning, I could hear Jesus calling me but it took time before I could realize what was going on. I came to see that I was in a big room with Jesus and His Apostles. Jesus had just finished washing the feet of the 12 and now they were taking their places at the table for the Passover meal. Jesus was speaking to His Apostles and to me saying,
"Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you. Melvin, come and eat of my body too." Then He took the cup filled with wine and said, "Take this all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.
Melvin, you too, drink of this cup. I have changed the bread and wine into my very body and blood. You have received me into your heart. I have given you, my Apostles and you Melvin, the gift of my priesthood. You are now priests of the New Covenant. You now have the power to change the bread and wine into my body and blood. Wherever the Holy Eucharist is celebrated, my sacrifice is made present for all those who attend. The Eucharist is indeed the summit of Christian life.
The priesthood identifies you closely with me. You exercise your priesthood in my name for as a priest you act in my name. Live your priesthood in union with me. Be models for the faithful by giving good example. Be models of prayer for my brothers and sisters. Remember you have received a tremendous gift when you were ordained. Appreciate the gift of the priesthood and live according to its demands. I call all priests to live celibacy in imitation of me, not to be of the world, and to love all my brothers and sisters. Ask all the believers to pray for priests, to consider them their friends, and pray constantly that many will answer the call to be priests. Priests are not optional for the church. No, they are a necessary part of the church. They play a vital role for I have made it so. I call all priests and all those who want to be priests to be faithful to me and to live in intimate friendship with me. I love each one of them and I bless them all. I also bless all my brothers and sisters who receive them as they would me."
Today, Holy Thursday, is the birthday of the priesthood. That is why the Holy Father, the Pope, writes a letter to all priests on that day. As a priest I take to heart this morning the words of Jesus addressed to me and all those who read this letter. He stresses the high calling of the priesthood, and at the same time the attitude of humility each priest should have. They are human and frail, a weak instrument, for such a calling. Yet it is Jesus who strengthens them if they are united with Him. In fact it is His priesthood that He shares with the ordained. How can one reflect Jesus if he is not close to Him? Priests should consider themselves servants as Jesus was. They are to serve the people of God.
I am sure you will all join with your priests for the Mass of the Lord's Supper this evening. You will thank Him for the gift of the priesthood, and you will pray for all priests that they be priests according to Jesus' heart.
As we thank Jesus for the gift of the Eucharist and the Priesthood, may He fill you with His grace and peace.
Fr. Melvin.

Dear Rita,
Greetings to you all. I thank God for the bright sun this morning after all the snow we had yesterday. Thank you, too, for your prayers for Alphonsina who came to see me yesterday afternoon. Jesus has begun the healing process in her. Continue your prayers for her.
I was again with Jesus in the desert this morning in my prayer. His time is coming to an end in that place. After a time of adoring and thanking Him, Jesus began to speak saying,
"Melvin, I love you, my dear friend. This is my last day in the desert. These days in this barren place have taught me to beware of material things. I lived here now for 40 days without any material comfort and this condition has helped me to be single minded as regards the purpose of my life. So many are weighed down by material concerns that their spirit is unable to raise itself to me. I confirm and state again what is written that it will be difficult for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.
Melvin, my symbolic "yes" at my baptism in the Jordan will soon become a reality. My mission given to me by my Father is about to be accomplished in the next few days. I will bring about the Redemption of the world through suffering and death on the cross. Every year this sacrifice of mine is made present in the world during Holy Week.
Melvin, prepare your heart to join me as I undergo my Passion and Death in your heart. For many years now, I've been calling you to join me to live my Passion.
Again this year I will live my Passion in you for three days. Be docile as we are united in this great drama. I want you to offer my Passion to the Father for the conversion of the world.
I call all people who are my friends to join me in my agony in the garden of Gethsemane; in my scourging; for the Way of the Cross; for the nailing to the Cross, and to be with me for the three hours I hung on the Cross from noon till 3:00 p.m.
On Good Friday, let them refrain from talking but meditate and contemplate before the crucifix from noon till about three o'clock or until they go to church.
Let them offer my sacrifice for the conversion of sinners and for the grace of conversion for the people who do not believe in me. I love you, Melvin, and all my friends."
The great drama of our salvation is about to begin. These days are of great importance for our salvation. They should be days of intense prayer with Jesus. Let us be unite with Him as He goes through His bitter Passion. He suffered everything for love of you and me.
Every year during the Easter Tridium, Jesus allows me to undergo His Passion. I experience His Passion for hours at a time. It is a great grace which He gives me.
This year He invites all of you to join Him. Read the passages in the Bible and join Him spiritually in the various episodes of His suffering from Gethsemane to the Cross and then to the Resurrection. Remember Mary, Our Mother, is always there with us.
I beg Jesus to give you all the grace to experience His Sacred Passion.
May He bless you with deep peace.
Father Melvin.

April 10
Dear Rita,
Good morning and best wishes to you all. Winter is back with us with a new coat of snow on this 10th day of April. All the trees are decorated once more and the snow is not over yet.
In my half hour of contemplative prayer this morning, I was with Jesus in the desert. He made me welcome by saying,
"Melvin, I love you and come and sit with me in our usual place. Let us continue our conversation here in the desert. Holy Week is an intense time of prayer, going to church, and fasting for my friends. Melvin, I know that Holy Week has great meaning for you for I have shared my cross with you often. Be close to me every day for you are my friend and I crave for your love. One of the greatest sorrow during my Passion was the desertion of my friends, my own Apostles. Judas betrayed me for 30 pieces of silver, Peter denied me three times, and most of the others ran away. It is no better today. How many of those who said they were my friends no longer walk with me!
I have been abandoned by a good number of the Bishops, Priests, Religious Brothers and Sisters and by many of the Laity. They no longer believe in me and accept me as their Saviour. I love them all and I call them to return to me.
Today, Melvin, I present you with the cross, the symbol of suffering and death for you. Keep the cross always before you for it will always remind you of me. Remember victory is only through the cross and I am the proof of it. I share my cross with all the baptized. Let them accept it and carry it with me. I call you to embrace my cross for you cannot be a Christian without it. Welcome it every day and I will always be with you. I carried my cross to Calvary so I invite you to carry yours behind me. Come follow me. In the cross is salvation, so venerate the cross as a symbol of that salvation I brought to you. Let your whole being be marked by the cross, and it will bring you peace. My dear friends, place the crucifix in your homes in a prominent place for it shows my love for you. I freely went to the cross out of love for you. Today Christians would like to have a Christianity without the cross, and this is a contradiction. Psychology or counseling cannot replace the cross for the Christian. I cannot be replaced by Freud.
Melvin, today I offer the world life or death; life with me or death apart from me. Each person will have to choose and those who do not choose have already made their choice. Let each consider the grave consequence of his or her decision. I bless you and all my friends."
Today, Jesus offers us the cross. We can accept it or refuse it. Life can only be found by accepting the cross in our life and following Jesus. To refuse it is to refuse Jesus Himself. He embraced His cross and it brought Him victory and we can do the same. With our "yes" He will walk by our side and lead us up the mountain to union with Him.
I have a busy day today. I have the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at Alberton Parish at 9:00 a.m. I will go and give the sacrament of penance to my dear Aunt who cannot go out these days because of sickness. I will meet with a very depressed woman this afternoon who needs our prayers. Please pray for Alphonsina who cannot bear to live another day. From 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. I will be in the confessional in Palmer Road for all those who wish to receive the Sacrament of Penance. May Jesus' mercy cover all of them and give them all new life.
Remember, Jesus loves you and calls you to embrace His cross. May He fill you with His peace.
Father Melvin.

Fr. Melvin writes to Rita telling her about things going on in his life and includes his conversations or locutions with Jesus
Dear Rita,
Good morning to you and all of Jesus' brothers and sisters on this beautiful sunny Palm Sunday. Today we begin Holy Week, a week during which Jesus showed us how much He loves us.
In prayer this morning, I was with Jesus who spoke to me about the meaning of today's celebration. He began by saying,
"Melvin, I love you. I am Jesus, your brother, and I am very happy that you come and spend time with me. I wait for your visit every day so that our bond of love may grow ever more intense. Today Holy Week begins and you remember my triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the Holy City of God. I entered the city as the Messiah, and I was acclaimed by my friends. They sang hymns and waved palm branches and placed their vestments on the road expressing their love. I entered the city sitting on a donkey and my heart was filled with peace. However, I knew that in less than a week I would be nailed to the cross and die. My friends welcomed me with great joy but the world rejected me and I was discarded, killed for I disturbed their uneasy life too much. Yet I freely accepted to suffer and to die for every person in the world that they would be free from their sins and become my friends.
Melvin, the road that I wish to follow today is the road to your heart and to the hearts of every person in the world. You have opened your heart to me and so have many in the world. You are my dear friends and I have made my home in you. I am knocking at the door of all those who have not opened their heart to me yet. When will you open the door? When will you wake up? When will you recognize my voice? Have I not a right to come in after all I suffered for you?
I am ready to suffer and die again for you for I love you very much. I want a partnership with you and it can begin when you let me enter your heart. Your heart is made for me for I made you with this empty chamber which can only be filled by me. I call you all to enter my church and to participate in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist which makes present my suffering and death on the cross. When you are at this celebration you are at the foot of my cross as I am dying for you and my blood flows out over you, cleansing you, and making you the beloved children of my Father and my dearest brothers and sisters.
At the Eucharistic celebration I give you the greatest gift you can receive. I give you myself in Holy Communion. I come to you as the Risen one, alive in my divinity and humanity to live in your hearts. I come to you for I want with each person a close and intimate relationship which will grow every day through mutual love. Reject sin and return to me and true peace and joy will be yours.
Melvin and all of you, my friends, remain close to me as I undergo my passion, death and resurrection for you. Join me every day in prayer as you keep me company in my sorrow and in my pain. You will rise with me filled with Easter joy. Yes, I call the world to me for I am the Saviour of all. I love you all."
Jesus' great desire is that He be acknowledged as the Saviour of us all. He knows we need Him to live. Did He not say, "Without me you can do nothing"? What a wonderful place this world would be if Jesus reigned as the King of our hearts! What a transformation would take place! This is precisely what He wants. It is for you and me to begin to live only for Jesus and soon the whole world would be transformed.
I will soon go to church for the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist. I will pray that Jesus' desire becomes a reality soon.
May we all open our hearts wide to Him today and let Him make His home in us. Jesus blesses you all with a big hug.
Fr. Melvin.
April 9, 2001
Dear Rita,
Good morning to you and all Jesus' friends. We had a little snow overnight and we might still have more today, but it might change to rain.
In prayer this morning I was with Jesus in the desert where He has been all through Lent. I always meet with Him in this bleak place where He is in deep communion with His Father. He began by saying,
"Melvin, I love you and I embrace you. Come and sit here with me. You know that I was sent here on earth by my Father for a very special mission: to be the Messiah, the Saviour of the world.
I gave my "yes" at my baptism in the Jordan by John and now I am here with my Father to understand in great detail what is my Father's will with regards to this call from Him. Although I am divine, I am perfectly human as well. As a human being I must learn and understand what the Father has in store for me. I need to be in complete agreement with my Father to carry out this work as Messiah. Soon now I will leave this place to carry out the will of my Father.
Melvin, you too, have been called by me to share in my very own priesthood. You are to minister to my brothers and sisters in imitation of me. As all the baptized partake in common vocation of priest, prophet and king, you have been set aside for the ministerial priesthood. You have been specially anointed for this role by which you are joined to me to act in my name. Melvin, when you baptize, it is I who baptize; when you forgive sins, it is I who forgive those sins; when you change the bread and wine into my Body and Blood, it is I who change these elements. You are to mirror me to my people. A priest has to be closely united to me and live with me. What a contradiction it is for a priest not to have a close relationship with me. Your priesthood has meaning only if you are joined to me. I call all priests to renew their attachment to me with all their heart.
I also call religious men and women to live in close imitation of me. These dear brothers and sisters of mine are consecrated in a special way of life. They have accepted the call to live my life in a radical way. They remain chaste in imitation of me; they are poor as I was poor; and they live a life of obedience as I was obedient to the Father. Their way of life should point to me and to no one else. I can these dear brothers and sisters of mine to return to the way I traced out for them. Pride and opposition must have no place in their lives.
Many of my brothers and sisters are called to the married life. Christian marriage is a sublime way of life and the way of perfection for a vast number of people. The love of husband and wife is to exemplify the love I have for all the members of the Church. In loving each other they are examples to all of the love I have for them. Marriage is only between a man and a woman and this has been from the beginning.
Today the institution of marriage is in grave danger because of attacks on it by governments, parliaments, and courts. Society, which is becoming more and more pagan, wants to replace this God-given institution with all sorts of man-made aberrations. Christian couples need help to live their marriage according to the will of God. I call on all couples to consider their call to this way of life. Remember that if you do not invite me into your marriage, it will fail. Christian Marriage is formed by three people: a man, a woman and myself. With the pressure from society, the evil one and from one's evil inclinations, it is very difficult to make marriage a success apart from me. Dear Christian couples, come back to me. Let me be a part of your marriage.
Build up a strong bond with me through daily prayer and Mass and Holy Communion at least weekly. When the cross becomes heavy, I'll be there to help you carry it. Remember too that love is not what pagan society tells us in songs and romantic novels. Love is something much deeper than just feelings. We do not have any control over feelings and we cannot base such an important way of life on how we feel when we get up in the morning. No! Love is an expression of one's whole being, heart, soul and spirit. It is grounded in a definite act of the will by which one says "yes" forever. It is a commitment one makes to me and to his or her spouse and it is as important as my "yes" at my baptism to be the Messiah, to suffer and die to redeem each one of you. It is a life-long "yes" that has to be repeated every day of your life.
There are others who are called to the single life. It is important here to examine the reasons why one decides to remain single. If it is for selfish or purely worldly reasons, then it is not worthy of a brother or sister of mine. If it is for service or help of the poor, then I embrace the one who has taken that decision. There are some who dedicate their lives to take care of their parents in their old age, and in doing so have decided to remain single in order to serve them better. These I love dearly. There are those who work to serve others especially the poor, the sick, the handicapped, etc. and they have given their whole lives to do this. These too are very dear to my heart.
Melvin, I have reviewed with you the call from me to a definite way of life of my brothers and sisters. Each style of life is demanding and each person will find the cross in whatever way he or she has chosen. I carried my cross till the end. If they are all closely united with me, I will help them carry their cross. I will be with them in days of great joy and in days of sorrow. I will never leave them. However, I must be their best friend and they have to come to me daily so that our friendship will grow and together we will be able to climb the mountain. I bless you and all my friends."
Today, Jesus sends out His call to us all. If we are Christians we will feel the need to have Him with us always. Material things are not the answer to success but Jesus is. Remember that with Jesus we are a majority. We have to discover anew the will of God for us.
I'll be at the manor this afternoon for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with the residents. My mother will surely come as she never misses to attend.
May Jesus help us to renew our commitment to Him, and give us the grace to remain close to Him.
Father Melvin.
P.S. I can still cope with the letters I'm receiving. Most are very touching.
Fr. Melvin.

Fr. Melvin writes email to Rita telling her about things going on in his life and sharing the conversations or locutions from Jesus
April 6, 2001
Dear Rita,
Good morning and best wishes to you and all who love Jesus.
Thank you all who prayed for "Kim." She came to see me yesterday and she is devastated by the breaking up of her marriage. She has two small children. The youngest is only 2 years of age. She is badly in need of healing and the process has now begun. She will come to see me again next week. Please continue to pray for her for she does not eat and hardly sleeps.
We had our last meeting of Renew last night and all felt sad that it was over. It is a wonderful way of building community and sharing our Christian life together. They all want to continue next fall and in the meantime we will form a prayer chain. Any member can phone the others and asks for prayers for any reason. This is one way of staying close together.
In prayer this morning, I was with Jesus as He hung on the cross. I saw His face in great suffering from the pain of His wounds and the great difficulty He had in breathing. He had to stop at times and struggle to breath. Soon after I began my prayer, I was with Him near the cross and Jesus began by saying,
"Melvin, I am dying for you for I love you with all my heart. I thirst for your heart and the hearts of all the people of the world. My pain is increased because of the rejection of my love, by the indifference of so many people, by the coldness of those for whom I am dying as I undergo this terrible agony, by the refusal of my brothers and sisters to open their hearts to me, and by continuing their offense against me by sinning. Melvin, do not abandon me but remain here by my cross to give me comfort and love. What a pain I have in my heart because so many people turn away from me. They dismiss me as if I was nothing to them. They do not care. Yet, how I love them; how I wish they would allow me to come into their hearts! I am dying for each one of them individually for I love them all equally. I want all my brothers and sisters to realize that we are made for each other. They cannot do any good without me. I am the only one who can bring them out of the darkness into the light. If they allow me to make my home in their heart, I will bring them strength to overcome all evil and to successfully undergo all trails. I will heal their hearts of any wound. I will bring them peace and joy which the world cannot give.
Melvin, I will change you, and all who come to me, into myself. Tell them I am knocking at the door of their hearts and if they hear me knocking, may they open the door so I can come in. I desire a response to my offer of love. Will you turn back to me? Will you begin a loving relationship with me? Will you be my friend? I thirst for your love, Melvin, and the love of every person on earth. Come and spend time with me every day in a heart to heart prayer. Be transformed in my very likeness through this intimate relationship with me. Take my hand as I extend it to you and never let it go. I will never stop loving you. I am your brother who is dying for you that you might live always with me."
How we can cause pain to Jesus because of our coldness, our indifference, our refusal to love Him. He is pure love and His suffering and death was out of love for us. Let us enkindle the fire of our love. Let us express to Him that He is our greatest friend. Let us be ready to spend time with Him every day simply to love Him and to allow Him to make His home in our hearts. He is asking us now, today, for He is our Saviour and our brother. Jesus, I want to love you, I want to live for you alone.
Thank you, Jesus, for this beautiful sunny Friday morning. I will go to Church for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and I will take part in a communal Way of the Cross.
I will pray for all of you that He blesses you and strengthens you.
Fr. Melvin.
April 7, 2001
Dear Rita,
Good morning to you and all Jesus' friends. I was at the Way of the Cross and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist last evening at the Immaculate Conception Church, Palmer Road. I assisted Fr. Art., the Parish Priest, and a good crowd of people came.
Today is the First Saturday of the month, the day dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. In my prayer this morning, Jesus took me to visit our Mother. When we arrived Mary was there at the door to welcome us. She embraced her Son, Jesus and then embraced me too. She led us to her beautiful sitting room where we sat around an ornate table. I sat at the end and Jesus sat at my right and Mother Mary at my left. Our Blessed Mother began by saying,
"Jesus, Melvin, what a joy to welcome you both to my house today. This home is your home too for you are part of my family.
Jesus, my Son, I love you with all my heart. You are my joy, my life, and my all. To be with you is the greatest happiness for I am flooded with peace and love. Melvin, my priest son, you are Jesus' friend and I love you as only a mother can. I care for you and I pray for you every day. Many people are honouring me today, the first Saturday of the month. There are many who love me and are devoted to me. They come to me every day to pray the rosary and to ask me to intercede for them or for their dear ones. I always listen to each prayer and intercede for them.
I asked you, Melvin, to have a shrine built for me on the Island and dedicated to me under the title of "Our Lady of Prince Edward Island." Continue your work for this. As I told you before, make this request of mine known, so that my children may help you to have the shrine built. I love all the people of the Island as I love all my children throughout the world. I want a place somewhere on the Island where my children can come to visit me and ask for what they need. As their mother, I will intercede for them at the heart of my Son, and I know He will not refuse my request. Jesus, perhaps you have a word explaining my role in the salvation of the world." Jesus said,
"Yes, my dear Mother, you are very closely associated with my work as Saviour. I was born as a human being from you. Your "yes" made it possible for me to become your son. You nursed me, took care of me as an infant and during all the years of my childhood. You loved me most dearly as your little boy and taught me as I was growing up all I needed to know. You associated yourself with me during my public life. But most of all you were there during the time of my intense suffering. I met you on the Way of the Cross full of love for me although your heart was breaking with pain.
You stood there at the foot of the cross during the last hours of my life. It is there from the cross that I gave you, dearest Mother, to be the mother of every believer. John stood for all those who believe in me. I wish that all people would honour you as the Father has honoured you and continues to honour you.
Mother, you are the most perfect and most beautiful person ever to live on earth. Your great role is to lead all to me, their Saviour and their brother. All who honour you, honour me, for the mother cannot be separated from the son. I, too, want a shrine in your honour, Mother, built in Prince Edward Island. May all those who hear this call pray that our desire will be fulfilled soon.
Through this shrine many will receive the grace of conversion, of repentance and of faith to live in close relationship with me, and be a loyal member of my church.
Melvin, pray for this desire of ours. Ask others to pray every day that a beautiful shrine be built for my Mother. Continue to contemplate every day and spread this way of prayer I taught me through my book, "The Art of Contemplative Prayer." I bless you all with peace and joy."
Our Mother Mary said at the end these words, "Melvin, you are always in your mother's heart. I love you and all my children very much. Remain close to Jesus, my Son."
Indeed my heart was filled with joy at the loving words of Jesus and Mary, our Mother. They are calling us all close to them. Mary points to her Son, and wants us to have a loving relationship with Him. He is our Saviour and Lord and at the same time He is our Brother. It is through prayer that we come to know and love Him.
Contemplative prayer is the prayer He loves very much for it permits us to have a close and intimate relationship with Him. Again, Jesus and Our Mother ask for the shrine and if we love them we will all unite together to bring it about. Let us pray every day for this intention.
At 1:00 p.m. I will be helping Fr. Albin in Tignish to give the Sacrament of
Confession to our high school youth. How wonderful it is that the youth come and be reconciled with the Lord as Holy Week begins. I will celebrate the Holy Eucharist this evening at our church. We will have the blessing of the palms and a procession. All will be in French.
May Jesus and Our Dear Mother bless you all as we begin the holiest week of the year.
Fr. Melvin.

Subject: MESSAGE FROM JESUS TO FR. MELVIN Doucette
Subject: Jesus and His Father
Date: Tue, 03 Apr 2001 09:32:48 -0400
From: Melvin Doucette
Dear Rita,
I am sending you what I wrote this morning concerning my contemplative prayer. I usually write down the main lines of my prayer every morning. It might be of help in your prayer too. Fr. Melvin.
Good morning to you and all who read this message. I was in Tignish last evening for private confessions for about 50 children. The weather was not too cooperative. Plenty of snow in my driveway and in places on the road.
The Pro-life meeting in Alberton was canceled because of the weather. I don't know if I'll get out today to go and give a talk to a group of young people who are preparing to receive confirmation. I read the letter of the Pope to priests and I was struck how he writes about contemplation. He wants us to contemplate the face of Christ.
Towards the end of the first page he writes: "Chosen to proclaim Christ, we are first of all invited to live in intimacy with him: we cannot give to others what we ourselves do not have!" He also wrote,"...the Great Jubilee is the experience of a more intense encounter with Christ."
The Pope calls us to a closer union with Jesus through prayer and reconciliation.
In my prayer this morning, I was with Jesus in the desert where Jesus all alone communes with His Father. He began by saying,
"Melvin, I love you. I am happy that you come again to join me in this no-man's land. The desert is the best place to be with the Father. Nothing can distract you here. Here the earth is meaningless so one has to find meaning somewhere else. My 40 days in this place has been a blessed time for me to be with my Father. As His Son and as a true man, I depend completely on Him. He keeps me alive and healthy although I have not drank any water or eaten food since I am here. The Father protects me from the elements, the cold at night, the snakes and scorpions that crawl around, and the scourging heat at noon. As human beings, He is the one who created us and gives us life at every moment of our existence. All that we have comes from Him. I thank Him every day for being my Father, for making it possible for me to be born as a man, to have given me such a wonderful mother, and for showering me with His love every day.
The Father's heart is a heart of love. It is out of love that He made each person and everything that is in the world. He made us with a heart to love Him. He wants us to come to know Him, to acknowledge Him as our Father and creator, and to worship Him as Our God. As human beings we have to humble ourselves before Him, praise and adore Him as the Lord, and obey His Word. The one thing that the Father detests is sin for it is an offense against Him. However, if the sinner repents, the Father forgives Him and forgets the offense, and reinstates that person among His beloved children.
The Father calls all His children to live in harmony with Him. Let us show our love to Him by following His commandments. Melvin, I have been in communion with my Father since the beginning of Lent. He has revealed to me His plan for the salvation of the world. He wants everyone to be saved and be united with Him forever in heaven. This was why I came into the world: to be the saviour of all the people and to atone for their sins.
There is no other way to the Father but through me. It is in accepting me in their hearts, that I will lead them to the Father of us all. Continue your work to spread my Good News to every person and pray that they will open their hearts to me. I will come with the Father and the Holy Spirit to live in them and we will make our home in their hearts. Come and join the family of God where peace and joy reigns. I love you and all your friends. May our family continue to grow."
What great love Jesus shows for His Father. Although He is in a lonely place, He is never alone for the Father is always with Him. His desert experience was very important for the work He had to do. Our contemplative prayer every morning is akin to this desert experience of Jesus. It is the source of grace for everything that happens during the day.
We have to return to the desert of our hearts often to commune with Jesus who is enthroned there. I received a letter yesterday from Fredericton with a request for the two books on contemplative prayer and a cheque to pay for it. I hope I can go to the post office today to mail them.
Ma y you remain close to Jesus the whole day, and let us pray for each other. In the hearts of Jesus and Mary,
Fr. Melvin.
April 5, 2001
Dear Rita,
Greetings to you and all who read this message.
I thank God for another sunny morning with temperature above freezing which means more snow will disappear today. Yesterday was a busy day with a visit to "Michael" who is about to loose everything because of alcoholism, the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in Alberton, confessions in Tignish and a Pro-life meeting in Alberton. I'll send my report of the Religious Service for the Day of the Unborn to the Bishop today now that it is signed by the Chairman of West Prince Pro-life group.
In prayer this morning I was with Jesus in the desert and He greeted me saying,
"Melvin, my dear brother, welcome to my cave. There is much suffering in the world. So many people are physically sick with cancer, heart trouble, liver trouble, asthma, arthritis, and many more; others have AIDS, leprosy, mental sicknesses, cholera, TB, etc. Besides all this there are many who are suffering mentally, spiritually or psychologically. There are so many murders, abortions, so-called mercy killing, wars, hatred and tensions in the world. Besides that there are earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can cause much destruction. Many turn to me and ask "why?" They say, "If God is good, why do these things happen?" Melvin, you know that all these "bad" things began because of sin, the sin of our first parents. Sin disrupted what God had created. Through sin the devil entered the world. A person can either serve God or serve the devil. There is no other choice.
God cannot be accused of causing all this suffering, instead it is sin and the one who causes one to sin, the devil who is responsible. Today there is so much sin in the world; therefore you see its consequences everywhere. If a person gets lung cancer because of smoking, is it not because of the choice he has made? AIDS would be eliminated if all followed the 6th commandment. Many people would avoid all these liver and heart troubles if they would not drink so much. If people would follow my commandment to love one another, to love your enemy, and to do good instead of evil, all hatred would end and there would be no wars. When I was on earth, I had compassion on the sick, the poor and the dying and I cured many and raised the dead to life. I am for life, for wholeness and for love, as I showed throughout my public life. Even today my power is at work for I still cure and help the people that come to me. I have cured you many times, Melvin, as you well know. I love with infinite love all my brothers and sisters. I cannot save you from suffering but I can suffer with you and help you through difficult times. When you suffer think that I am suffering too with you for I love you. If the people would wake up and turn to me, what a wonderful place this world would be, free from all hatred, war, division, prejudice and pride. All would be truly brothers and sisters caring and loving one another. Pray that my reign of love come soon upon the world. I bless you."
Jesus' heart is a heart of love. He is the answer to our world so sick in many ways. He is the answer to our life so full of pride and resentment. Let us allow Him to reign in our hearts and the more hearts turned to Him, the more the world will be His. Come, Jesus, be the King of hearts.
Today I will be receiving a woman devastated by the breakup of her marriage. She simply cries the whole day. Her name is "Kim." She wants me to pray with her so that Jesus can give her peace and that she can begin to pick up the pieces of her life. She needs to know that Jesus loves her. Alcohol is not a problem here. If she would have a better outlook on life and begin to love again, her marriage could be saved. Let us pray that Jesus will heal her heart.
This evening we will have our last Renew group meeting. We have already met six times during Lent and we have learned much. May the Lord continue to bless you all and may He fill your hearts with love.
Fr. Melvin.
April 4, 2001 JESUS FORGIVES
Dear Rita,
Good morning to you and all Jesus' friends. The sun is shinning bright today, thank God. There will be many happy people today after this wintry storm and the return of the sun. The snow is still there though but hopefully in a few weeks it will be gone.
My sister, Esther, is still in hospital. She cannot get rid of this cough which is causing all the trouble. Please continue to pray for her that she may get well.
I was with Jesus for a half hour this morning in contemplate prayer. I joined Him in the desert, in this very peaceful place, where He spends His days with His Father in preparation for His great mission. He began by saying,
"Melvin, my dear brother, I love you very much. Come and sit with me here in this bleak place where I spend my days with my Father in deep communion. I need this time with Him in order to be able to undertake the work He has given me. As I reflect on my work, great mercy wells up in my heart for you and all the people. My mercy is as deep as the ocean and my love is unconditional and everlasting. I came especially for you and all the sinners of the world.
As sinners you are separated from me and my Father, for you have turned your back to me. You refuse to walk with me. You made yourself believe that you are god and that you are free from your Creator. As you can see, a sinner lives a lie, for he or she is not God. Each human being is a creature of God and made by God. He or she lives in darkness and in great turmoil unless that person lives in me.
Oh, come to me and in all humility confess your sins and ask for forgiveness. I will surely tell you 'I forgive you.' What joy fills my heart when you repent of your sins. It is my great joy to forgive for my mercy is great.. I forgive and forget at the same time. I bring you back again into my family and I come and live in you. Melvin, conversion begins when a person repents of his or her sins. Do you remember the first words I spoke as I began my public life: 'Repent and believe the Good News.' All are sinners and in need of forgiveness. I love a humble heart for such a person will be blessed. I give you all my peace and joy."
What is so great is not the fact that we sin against God, but that God forgives us. He is so merciful and loving that, like the Father in the story of the prodigal son, as soon as we say we are sorry, He forgives us. We should go to Him everyday to ask forgiveness for the sins we committed that day, and He will graciously forgive us. We should never doubt His forgiveness but know for sure that all our sins are gone forever. We never have to confess them again once we have gone to confession. Even those we forgot are forgiven too.
I have a busy day today. I will celebrate the Holy Eucharist at the Philip's residence in Alberton. This is a home for the elderly. At 6:00 p.m. I will be in Tignish again for confessions and this evening at 8:00 is our prayer meeting.
The Lord is good. His love is so great. Let us open our hearts to Him so He can fill us with love, peace and joy.
Fr. Melvin.
